3. GENERAL |
How does waxing work? How long must the hair be before I wax? How do I prepare my skin before waxing? On the day you’re scheduled to wax, wash the area with soap, water and towel dry. Apply some powder to eliminate any moisture before spreading the wax in the direction of hair growth. Once it’s dry, remove the strip against the direction of hair growth. These basic steps are as important as having a good wax. Do I need to apply powder before waxing? If your skin is dry, hard wax will likely stick to the skin/dead cells. So be sure to also hydrate yourself by drinking enough water prior to your waxing session. How do I know whether the temperature of my wax is just right? Another way to know is when you can easily scoop it with a spatula. Doing a patch test on the inner part of your wrist can also help you to determine if the wax is ready or not. If it feels too hot, leave it cool for a couple of minutes and do another test on your wrist again. If wax is not spreading easily and has a stringy texture, it is too cool and will need a bit more heating time. So, if you have sensitive skin, but would still like to get waxed, be sure to pay extra attention on pre and post-waxing care as it can minimise the risks of inflammation and so on. have broken, irritated, inflamed, cut, or sunburnt skin have been waxed within the last 24 hours have varicose veins have a rash, recent scar tissue, a skin graft, pimples, cold sores, moles, warts or fresh bruises have undergone dermabrasion services within the past three months, laser skin resurfacing within the last year have Botox or collagen injections performed within the last seven days … are taking Accutane, or have stopped taking it less than 6 months ago … are taking any topical or oral acne medication … have Lupus or AIDS … are undergoing cancer therapy, including chemotherapy or radiation What is the correct technique when using hard wax? If you are a new user, always focus on a smaller area first. Spread a thin, even layer in the direction of hair growth. An even layer strip reduces risks of it tearing midway during the removal process. Making an even edge around the perimeter also eases the peeling process. When applying, use an adequate amount of pressure to trap the hair within the wax. As soon as the wax has set, stretch the skin taut before removing it. Even professionals have to repeat their applications when they’re dealing with a client who has an area with a combination of hair types, lengths and directions of growth. These are some of the things you would need to pay attention to. It’s also about luck. Ensure your skin is clean and free from sweat, oils or any moisture so that the wax can adhere to the hair. The length of your hair should also be about 1/4" long to make sure that the wax has something to grip itself onto. If your hair is still short, grow it out. It is also important to exfoliate one day before the scheduled session. Failing to do so, the first few attempts will result in the dead cells being removed instead of the hair. I experience irritation after using the wax, what went wrong? As mentioned, it is advised to follow the basic waxing steps and do a patch test 24 hours before your scheduled session. For beginners, your legs are the best place to start practising your technique and build your confidence. |
